Service Learning, Spring 2013
Jan 9th, 2013 by danika
Faculty, if you are planning to have your students do any community-based projects or activities, we would like to invite them to exhibit their projects at the end of the semester in the Service Learning Showcase.
Students, if you are planning to do a community-based project (or would like to find out how), you are welcome to work with URSL to receive service credit and to showcase your work.
The purpose of the Showcase is to allow students to celebrate and show off their work that involved and impacted our community. Students can create any type of exhibit that they think best conveys the project. The Showcase event will be promoted and invitees will include other students, faculty, staff, and, importantly, community members. Students will receive certificates of completion for their service learning activities, and will be publicly recognized for their engagement with the community.
If you have incorporated service learning or community-based activities into your courses already, please let me know so we can invite your students. If you are interested in having students log their service hours, we also have the capability to track their community hours through our organization page on Bronc Link. If your students register with us, we are happy to have them log their hours, and we would appreciate being able to identify and keep track of the community groups with which your students are working. We can also ensure that students have signed waivers and feel like they have support if they have questions or concerns about the community service they are doing.
If you aren’t currently including such activities, but would like to explore how to incorporate or encourage students in service learning and community-based projects, please contact me to schedule a meeting. I am happy to provide simple ways to offer this option, or to help facilitate the potential partnerships with the community.
We are here to work with you to engage students in meaningful experiential learning opportunities and to promote your excellence in teaching!
