UTeach – Pan American is a four-year, teacher preparation program for science and math majors modeled after the nationally recognized UTeach program established at The University of Texas at Austin in 1997. UTeach – Pan American’s first cohort of students, selected in summer 2012, enrolled in STEP 1: INQUIRY APPROACHES TO TEACHING (UTCH 1101) in fall 2012 and STEP 2: INQUIRY-BASED LESSON DESIGN (UTCH 1102) in spring 2013.
Students in both courses spend a portion of their time in a public school classroom as they begin to learn how to teach.
Before acceptance into the STEP 1 course, students must:
- complete the criminal background check required by the school district and
- provide evidence they have been tested for TB (tuberculosis) and had the test results evaluated.
For more information about enrolling in UTCH 1101, please contact us at uteach@utpa.edu.
The UTeach Office is located in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, EDCC 2.510, in the Education Complex on the northeast side of the campus. It is open from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. during the week.
