Description:                 The UTPA Blackboard Learn learning management system will be unavailable for database upgrade and tuning. This upgrade will require a full restart of Blackboard Learn

Services Impacted:      Blackboard Learn

Cause:                         This will be a proactive update as part of our preventative maintenance. This will also correct cloud connection issues.

Downtime:                  Sunday, May 26, 2013 from 12:00AM – 6:00AM

Users effected – All users will see notifications incorrectly.

On the top left hand side when you log into blackboard you will see that you have new notifications even though you do not. We realize this is a nuisance and we are in the process of getting this fixed. Blackboard has been informed and is currently working on a patch to fix the issue. They have not given a time frame but have made it one of their priorities. Please check back here for further updates regarding this notification bug.

Solution – We are currently working with the vendor to provide a patch for our system.

The Java plug-in has been disabled for all external websites. All university websites, such as Oracle, Blackboard, etc. are not affected by this.

Java has released an update on January 13, 2013, containing important security fixes which can be installed on faculty and student personal computers. To install the updated version of Java, go to http://java.com.
